DF Tacos, London’s Mexican Restaurants known for mixing traditional with modern and innovative influences, is once again shaking up the taco scene with their inventive new menu, filled with unconventional combinations of fillings.
Their new line-up of tacos launched this past September the 2nd, and the menu is filled with bold flavours and re-imagined Mexican traditions, pushing the boundaries of what we think should be in a taco.
Whether you are a traditionalist or enjoy the idea of ‘fusion menus’, we can all agree: putting anything inside a tortilla will make it taste 100% better, no matter what it is. This is just a fact of life.
It does not matter if it is a soft taco, hard shell, burrito, quesadilla … there is something undeniably satisfying about being able to pick it up with your hands and having all your ingredients safely hugged by some sort of tortilla.
Now, do I believe that we should be allowed to put anything in a tortilla and still call it a taco? Not particularly. However, have I been curious about what the iconic Spaghetti Taco from Nickelodeon’s iCarly would taste like ever since I was 8 years-old? Yes, indeed. So we must keep an open mind!
A New Era of Tacos: Fusion Flavours and Bold Combinations
Starting off with the Hot Honey Chicken, featuring crispy buttermilk chicken, zesty slaw and pink pickled onions, alongside crunchy chip sticks sprinkled on top and the sweet but spicy Dr. Sting’s hot honey sauce. This was incredibly satisfying to bite into, if you love a crunch, this is the one for you! Tasty and punchy, while still leaving you with that safe feeling of a lazy Sunday afternoon hangover meal.

While chatting with our server, we discovered that the Tamari Pork Belly is a stand out favourite among the chefs, and I have to say I completely agree with them. Bringing together slow-cooked, free range pork belly with tamari and chipotle agave AND diced onion and sesame slaw, this was the highlight of the night for me.
This is a bit of an obvious opinion, I know, but we all know that there’s very few things better than slow-cooked pork belly when it comes to tacos. It’s juicy, it’s delicious, it’s slightly spicy and it makes you want to order 15 more just to chase that initial high. It’s the perfect taco filling.
Fish ‘N Chips, But Make It a Taco
As we are in London, they don’t shy away from pulling British classics into the mix. With the Fish ‘N Chips they are answering the question “What would happen if we replaced the typical newspaper with a flour tortilla and put crispy battered Pollock, mini fries, tartare sauce, and mayo in there?”
Truly a question worth asking! And the answer is: you make a taco that makes people ask “Who came up with this?” but also “Why didn’t anyone think of this before?”. Which is a win in my books!

Bugging Out: A Surprising Twist on the Classic Burger
Of course we couldn’t leave Burgers out of the equation, and we were feeling adventurous so we had the Yum Bug Burger, which switches out a beef patty for a sustainable and surprisingly delicious cricket patty, served with DF queso sauce, house pickles, burger sauce, shredded lettuce, and American mustard – wrapped in a tortilla instead of a bun. Dare I say I enjoyed this way more than the regular Smashburger option? Yes, I dare!
Not only did it taste fabulous, it also gives you that fun sense of surprise when you don’t know what to expect, and it turns out to be way better than you could ever imagine crickets to taste like.

The rest of the menu features an assortment of what you’d expect from a Mexican restaurant: Burritos, Nachos, Fries (chilli and non), Churros and some incredible £5 Margaritas, in Classic, Berry & Hibiscus and Passion Fruit.
You can find their full menu here, including all their vegan and veggie options.
Pushing Boundaries: Head Chef Leo da Cruz’s Vision for London’s Taco Scene
DF’s Head Chef Leo da Cruz said: “We’ve gone beyond Mexico with our new tacos. The tried and tested fillings that are already found elsewhere in the UK are great, but we wanted to push ourselves further to create some amazing new flavours never tasted in London’s tacos before. We’re super excited and can’t wait for taco fans to get stuck in.”
