Jovva’s ‘More’: A Debut Anthem Echoing Gen Z’s Restless Heartbeat

By Susanna Borio

Who doesn’t want more? More from a relationship? More from life? It seems like Gen Z life only leaves us wanting more.

We want to have the freedom to experience everything the world has to offer, but lack the ability to wait for our decisions to pan out. We want to experience everything, all at once, as fast as possible.

“More” by Toronto alt-R&B singer-songwriter Jovva is a promising debut single, a catchy ‘hot girl anthem’ encapsulating the craving of just wanting more.

With her introduction to music being focused on classical piano and vocal lessons, she has been able to refine her style into something that feels familiar yet distinctive.

“As a musician, my goal is to merge alternative R&B, and indie to create a new kind of pop sound”, Jovva says explaining her unique sound.

And by mixing captivating lyrical hooks, bouncy instrumental and the husky vocals typical of R&B, she does just that.

‘I’m impatient and I crave attention

I know it’s a cry for help

Independent that’s why I just left him

It’s ok that’s what I tell – I tell myself’

She entails the need to exceed your own expectations, in other words enough is never enough. As a second generation Chinese-Canadian, she uses engaging stories and relatable feelings to expose the pains of growing up and not always feeling accepted.

Jovva has collaborated with some of the top writers and producers, who have worked with artists like Exo, Chloe Bailey, and BTS. She is currently working behind the scenes, and is releasing more singles in the upcoming year and planning live shows.
